Juniper
Delicatessen Quality food, healthier eating
About us

PEOPLE ~ ETHOS ~ PRODUCTS

At Juniper Delicatessen we care a great deal about three things...

~~~ PROMOTING HEALTHIER EATING ~~~
~~~ SUPPORTING SUSTAINABLE LIVING ~~~
~~~ PROVIDING QUALITY ~~~
We buy the best quality speciality products from first class suppliers.
We use top quality ingredients to create our great tasting cake,
pastry & biscuit recipes.
We want to promote healthier eating.
We provide healthier higher fibre choices, using fruit, seeds & nuts in many recipes and offering a range of granary & wholemeal breads in our catering work.
We make & decorate items fresh each day, on the premises;
ringing the changes to reflect seasonal themes.
Our Business Lunch Menus are made freshly to order.
Attention to detail, combined with our use of best quality ingredients provides an excellent quality eating experience, whether you eat in the cafe, order a Business Lunch, a Celebration Cake or take cakes away to enjoy at home.
~~~

We care about sustainability too.  Not only about our impact on the natural environment, but also about the lives and welfare of those, particularly from poorer countries, who work hard to supply our products.

We actively support a number of Charities, in particular CAFOD and UNICEF and will be making special collections for them from time to time.

One of our Chefs spent two weeks volunteering in a Madagascan orphanage, called Akany Avoko, for which we have helped to raise funds.

We are also supportive of many local good causes, such as the Chandler Day Centre.

Throughout the business we promote sustainable use of the Environment and Fair Trade practices.  We stock many Organic drinks, our Lavazza Coffee is Rainforest Alliance certified and we buy many Fair Trade items,

particularly our 'Down to Earth' range of Teas.

We use 100% biodegradable packaging from a specialist supplier, which includes our take away hot & cold cups, plastic containers, cutlery and all paper bags and carriers & we recycle as much as we can of the packaging we receive from suppliers.

Juniper has seen a number of changes since re-opening in August 2007.

Jan Wilkinson is still actively involved in running the Delicatessen.  Jan, a Chartered Accountant and Food Scientist, looks after the business administration side, plus marketing and promotion.

Tre, her daughter, who was our Head Chef & her partner Rob, who was our Barista have sadly left the business - but for a very happy reason.
They now have a new baby, Orion, to take care of and have moved to France!

We were very greatful for all the efforts made by Mary and Amy in 2007 & 2008 in helping to establish the new business.  Both have decided to move on and take up new challenges and we wish them well.

In September 2008, we were delighted to welcome Liz to our business.
Liz managed the Deli / Cafe plus our Business & Private Catering work on a day to day basis.  She was very ably assisted by Nichola, who was our longest serving employee and who brought a great deal of experience with her, having worked at Juniper with the previous owners.  Nichola was an excellent chef and was then our cake & pastry baking expert.

Last but not least, we are very happy to have had the enthusiastic and cheerful assistance of a number of local students in 2008.
Alex, Emma and Gaby are still attending school in Sunninghill, whilst Oliver has now gone off to Bristol University.

Very sadly the recession had its effect on our fledgling business and we were forced to close after Christmas 2008.  Happily all our staff quickly found other employment.

Just before closing, Liz introduced us to Lydia, who had taught her to make and decorate wonderful cakes.........so we gradually hatched a plan to

RE-OPEN AS A SPECIALITY CAKE SHOP

whilst retaining our Business & Private Catering, which has continued during our closure, with several large and small events successfully catered for.

So we are DELIGHTED TO WELCOME Lydia to the team!

Lydia ran her own high quality Celebration Cake making business in the past and is very keen to apply her unique creative talents to a wider variety of smaller cakes, biscuits and fancies.

Lydia has been developing recipes and creative ideas for a couple of months and you will see the STUNNING RESULTS when you next visit the Deli and experience

"CAKES BY LYDIA"

Jan and Lydia are always happy to discuss advanced orders for Business Lunches, Events & Conferences or any Private Catering or Celebration Cake requirements that you may have.

We hope you enjoy our
HIGH QUALITY HEALTHIER FOODS
